It records the last 10, 20 or 30 seconds of video after the moment has already happened. The camera keeps a rolling buffer while it is open, and one tap saves that buffer as a clip.
The app is free and gives you 3 clips per day in HD with up to 2 players. Pro is a one-time purchase of €6.99 in the eurozone — other regions pay the local equivalent, and it is never a subscription — giving unlimited clips, Full HD 1080p and up to 8 players.

Android and iOS phones, plus watch apps for Wear OS and Apple Watch. The watch acts as a remote trigger while the phone does the recording: Wear OS works with Android phones, Apple Watch with iPhone. Minimum versions: Android 10 and iOS 16; for the watch app, Wear OS 3.0 or watchOS 10.
Yes. Videotapr records video and audio together, so the shout after a good point is on there too. That is why the app asks for both camera and microphone permission the first time you start it. Those permissions are only active during a session; with the app closed, nothing happens.
Almost. A clip can run 1 to 2 seconds longer than the length you picked. A video file has to start at a keyframe, and the app takes the nearest keyframe before your chosen start point. So you never get less than you asked for, sometimes a little more.
In your own gallery, in a folder called Videotapr — they are ordinary video files you can open in any player or app. Videotapr does not upload your video anywhere and does not host your clips. Sharing a clip is you sending an ordinary video file. Your video and audio never leave your phone, and there is no account. On iOS the App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. On Android the app stores only a hashed device ID to stop the free trial and daily limit from being reset, as explained in the privacy policy.
No. Recording and saving clips work entirely offline. A connection is only needed for the initial download and for a Pro purchase.
Yes. It works for any sport where short, unpredictable moments happen inside a longer session — tennis, football, basketball, hockey, skating. It also works for pets and children, for exactly the same reason.
10, 20 or 30 seconds. Thirty seconds is the maximum the buffer holds.
If more than 30 seconds have passed, the footage has already been overwritten and cannot be recovered. In practice people react within a few seconds.
Keeping the camera open uses battery like any camera app does: the camera and the video encoder run continuously for as long as the session lasts. Expect meaningful battery use over a long session, and start with a full charge or bring a power bank if you play for hours.
